Years are unknown. One is 10' 6' which appears to be built from plans similar to Clark Craft Wetback '10' (see www.clarkcraft.com) It has a Mercury Mark 55 motor that runs. The hull is in very nice condition with no damage or rot.
The second Hydroplane is a 9' 'pickle fork' design but has a flat nose. There is no motor. Included is steering and a vintage Wilcox Crittenden throttle assembly. The hull on this boat is also very nice with no damage or rot. The trailer is steel with a professionally constructed aluminum rack to carry two Hydroplanes.
The tires are good and the lights are in working condition. There are no titles or registration for either Hydroplane or the trailer! $2500.00 buys the package. I will separate the package if interested in just one item. Category-Length-Posted Over 1 MonthI bought this boat many years ago with the intention of putting a 1000cc MV Agusta motorcycle engine in it.
Never found the time to do it. The boat is in excellent condition and has a new Toyota 1200cc engine. There are many parts that come with the boat including an extra engine block. The pictures shown here were taken the day I took delivery at an APBA Historic Boat Race. The boat has been stored inside my heated building ever since. I'm moving so its time for it to find a new home. I don't know much about the boat, but I was told that it was a two time national champion and is extremely well made.
I have been contacted by the son of the man whoi won the championships with this boat and will post more information as I receive it. The boat was built by Dick Sooy and it debuted in the middle of the 1981 season driven by Pam Adams. They went on to win the championship that year. Dick Shaw then began driving for Dick Sooy in 1983 and they again won the national championship. A true piece of history preserved. Category-Length-Posted Over 1 MonthAwesome boat that requires a go kart engine. Built this boat for my son using birch plywood and 1/4' marine plywood for the sponsons, and the entire hull was fiber glassed and resin was used inside and out.
Has a vintage racing prop from Australia, teleflex steering, stainless rudder and hardware, and full styrofoam throughout for floatation, and brass screws every inch and a half. It has trim tabs as well as air traps and does have a kill switch.
Used an old five horse briggs that was running it at about thirty mph when the engine gave out, so here it sits. With a good ten horse motor, it will do fifty five to sixty quite well, being regulated by the adjustable throttle. I can help with delivery within reason, and I am in western North Carolina.
If any questions please call 321-543-8447 and thanks for looking. Category-Length10.0Posted Over 1 MonthYou are bidding on a 1951 Hallet 48 Hydroplane. Selling due to relocation out of state. This Vintage race boat is absolutely beautiful. It is professionally restored and rebuilt with a deck-off restoration. True 3-point hydroplane. It has a 100 HP modified Crosley with big throat Stromberg 97 carb.
Motor has fresh rebuild and has not been raced since rebuild. The boat sits on an original restored Crosley trailer. The boat has natural Mahogany decks and runs on alcohol.
History, documents and photos also come with it. This amazing vintage hydroplane is turn-key and is ready for the APBA vintage circuit.
When boat was raced by Jim Sharde in the 1960s, it was converted to alcohol with a twin Amal carburetor manifold and was converted later to a “Big Throat” Stromberg 97 carb. When it was outfitted with the Amal carbs, the boat was clocked at 108 MPH and averaged 88 MPH in oval track races. Boat has racing history.See short video clip at: Http://youtu.be/frKiqHWiq5E Y Class in Vintage Hydro Racing: The 48 Cubic Inch class started in the late 1940s. The motors that were being installed in this hull class being the 44 inch Crosley motor from the Crosley car. The motor was modified and used with either multi-carburetors of fuel injection setup.
No superchargers allowed. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, other motors were tried, including motorcycle engines. By the late 1960’s and early 1970’s the dominant engine was the Sunbeam 4 cylinder car motor. This motor was still winning races in 1994. In the early years the hulls had to be a minimum of 9 feet long. As the speeds increased the minimum length also increased.buyer is responsible for pick up. Paypal or Certified Bank Check.
Category-Length-Posted Over 1 MonthMinimax Hydroplane This is a fun little boat to drive. I made one of these in 1965 and made a new one several years ago. It is made from plywood.
It is 8 feet long and 4 feet wide. Made from the original plans, but I used modern glues and materials, such as West's System Epoxy and modern marine paints and sealers. The hydro comes with a steering wheel and cables and a throttle control. I have had a ten horse Merc and a 15 horse Johnson motor on this little baby.
I call it an original jet ski. It is kind of like driving a go cart on the water. I have just put a new coat of paint on her. The trailer can be bought for $500.00 but only with the boat.
I can deliver for free up to 100 miles away from Syracuse NY. Thanks for looking E mail with questions Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.
Category-Length-Posted Over 1 MonthThis was custom built as the U-3 Unlimited Hydroplane hull #9703. Campaigned from 1997 - 2002 as the Allison V12 piston powered U-3 Cooper Racing out of Evansville, Indiana. This hull was semi-retired in 2002 and kept as the back-up hull for U-3 Cooper Racing until 2009 when U-22 Webster Racing purchased it and converted it from Allison V12 piston power to Lycoming T55L7C Turbine power. The U-22 team made numerous upgrades including the engine and gearbox area as well as updating rigging and hull tuning upgrades.
The Unlimited Hydroplane rules allow piston powered hulls to weigh less than their turbine hull counterparts. This hull was built extra strong and ended up weighing closer to a turbine hull weight than a piston hull weight. Because of this generous/sturdy build she affectionately took on the nickname of Tubby. This hull was built strong and should last for many more years.
The air-trap, also known as tunnel, was built approximately 92' wide which was wider than the average Unlimited hull for the time and still a state-of-the-art width for today's standards. This hull was last raced in Doha, Qatar in 2010.
Today she looks great as a display boat on a trailer as an advertising platform. The paint has some flaws and a few bumps and scrapes, but most people are so in awe seeing one of these that they don't even notice the flaws. A really cool thing about this hull is that it has the ability to be re-fitted with piston or with turbine power. There are very few hulls that can be, and have been, rigged both ways. I purchased this as a display boat on a trailer and more recently sold that trailer. The trailer pictured is not included in a lower negotiated price, but I will be willing to include it if you pay the Buy It Now price.
Some of the hardware required to get the boat running again has been removed as it is not needed to display. If you purchase the boat, and wish to get it running again, I can get you the hardware needed for a lot less than it would cost to buy new.
Again the price listed is as pictured, less trailer. I will include rear vertical wings to complete the look, but you will need to assemble and install. This boat is located in Indiana and is being sold as/is where/is intended for local pick up. If you buy the trailer, which is only available with boat Buy It Now, it may need paint and some basic maintenance. It has good tires and useable lighting, functioning hydraulic tilt rams, and it should easily get you home if you decide to purchase with boat.
Delivery is not offered for this item, but if you Buy It Now, and pay in full before delivery, I may be able to get you a reasonable quote for delivery. I pulled this trailer back from southern California 2,400 miles with no issues.
It can be pulled with a heavy duty dually pickup, or more easily with a box truck race hauler. Again this auction is for the display boat only. Again does not include hardware, gearbox, turbine, shafting, propeller, rudder and other items if you plan to run her again. If you buy her I will gladly get you a reasonable price on hardware and drivetrain should you choose to get her going again. A great display boat at a great price. If you're interested in owning this Unlimited Hydroplane then feel welcome to ask me any questions that pertain to this auction.
If you're curious why I'm selling this one, I have another one I'm planning to use as a display boat so I want this one to go to someone new who can enjoy it. Thanks for reading and thanks in advance should you be the winning buyer. Category-Length-Posted Over 1 MonthUp for sale is a very neat canvas topped wooden Hydroplane. This boat was very nicely built at one time, but is in need of a good home. It has a Martin 60 outboard with the racing steering bracket. The engine was not originally on this boat, but did come off of an APBA hydro raced in the early 50's.
However, I don't know anything about the engine. If you have any questions, please contact me. Thanks for looking! Item in as-is condition with no warranty. I can help in shipping this, although may need to palatalize it. Deposit of $250 due at sale. Payment must clear prior to pickup or shipping of boat.
